Coral reefs are some of the most stunning ecosystems on the planet. But they are under threat. As exciting as they are, the first step to saving them is mundane. Observation and reporting. Yawn.
On top of that, scientists face more pressure than ever before. It's not that they do not want to do this work; they do not have time to even think about it. They need help to tackle this immense task.
The Great Reef Census gives everyday people the ability to take part in this monitoring. The brief was simple. Create a 60-second film to raise awareness of the Great Reef Census. It should stress the need for reef conservation and encourage people to volunteer.
Our research shows that many people think these issues are too big for one person to tackle alone. It’s overwhelming. This leads to a sense of helplessness and a lack of motivation to contribute.
Our solution? Anyone with a computer and some free time can help save the reefs worldwide. Put urgency, lush reef visuals, and a computer UI into a blender and... this is what comes out.
